At long last I can return to take the panoramic view that I took in my assignment - Your Own Neighbourhood. I didn't want to take the pictures along that street as there was a large amount of scaffolding up against the main house in the street. It's finally gone and I can get out there as soon as we have a reasonably sunny day. This time I'll use Adobe Photoshop Photomerge, that my tutor suggested, rather than try to fit the pictures together myself as that can be very tricky.
Back in a mo with a new image!
----------------------------
I finally went back to take a panoramic view of Monmouth Street. The reason I waited so long was that the main house in the shot was covered in scaffolding. In winter and early spring scaffolding appears like a rash around the town as traders and home owners get ready for the influx of visitors.
In my first effort I took innumerable pictures and tied them together myself. In my tutor's report he suggested that I used Photoshop's photomerge and this is what I did. You can see it's a different picture as the striking white and yellow house has undergone a transformation to blue. The house, has in fact been renovated and the roumour is that the ex-wife of Terence Conran (of Habitat fame) has bought it as a second home and completely stripped it.
Anyway, here's the original home made shot followed by the photomerge one. I can't believe the size of the finished file, I've never had one so big. It was eventually made up of 17 layers and 1.5 Gb in size. The finished image was 108 inches wide by 25 inches high. Even when I flattened the layers the file size was 608 Mb.

Now that I have the two images side by side to compare I can see that I constructed my image from the other way so have the bench in the middle of the image rather than on the ends. I still think it's an interesting combination nevertheless.
Photomerge has put together the 17 layers seamlessly, much better than I could ever do. So much so, I think I'll use it in the future when I try other panoramas of scenes around the town.
The other area that my tutor felt needed attention was that I used old stock, ie, pictures I took in 2010 instead of take fresh images for the assignment.
I used old images because I wanted to show the comparison of summer in Lyme and as I was writing the assignment in the autumn it was impossible to take new pictures. The two pictures featured the local beach, called Monmouth Beach, and gardens above the town beach overlooking the Cobb Harbour, see below.
